Leadership: More Than Just Being in Charge
Leadership: More Than Just Being in Charge

The quality of leadership is very important to develop into a well rounded individual. Some think of leadership as authority/ power which is not true; it is really about serving others or helping them towards a successful outcome. Anyone can demonstrate themselves as a leader regardless of physical position or title; by taking initiative in their service to others through acting with integrity every day.

At its core, true leadership resides within the leader’s character. A leader’s honesty, fairness, humility, and respect for others are what define them in the eyes of those who follow them. Ethically performed actions in accordance with core values create trust between leaders and their followers. Trust creates oneness among those working toward a common objective; therefore, creating strong teams/organizations/communities. Leadership without character is no longer meaningful or credible.

The other necessary component of effective leadership is communicating with others effectively. Effective leaders must be able to articulate their ideas, goals, and expectations clearly; they must also be willing to listen to others and to obtain constructive feedback from them. Effective leaders listen to others more than they speak. This process allows a leader to understand multiple perspectives; this in turn enables the leader to make more effective decisions and builds more solid relationships. The ability to communicate effectively also allows groups to resolve conflict more quickly, thus allowing groups of individuals to work together to accomplish tasks more efficiently than they otherwise would.

Leadership depends upon decision making and problem-solving abilities. It is frequently the case that leaders may be having difficulty making tough choices since they will frequently be in difficult situations. In order to support the group as a whole, a good leader must maintain their composure when confronted with pressure, thoroughly evaluate their options, and pick one that is in the best interest of the entire team. A good leader does not get hung up on a mistake; they accept the responsibility for that mistake, learn from it, and move on with the confidence that it occurred in the process of becoming a leader.

One of the best characteristics of a leader is servant leadership. True leaders are not above other individuals because they lead from the front and are always striving to elevate their followers. They provide assistance to their teammates’ growth, acknowledgement of their hard work and effort, and assist others to achieve their greatest potential. By empowering those leaders, future leaders will be created.

Finally, great leaders motivate others by creating an inspirational vision and developing a plan or steps to achieve that goal. By communicating, through action, the value of their commitment to a shared vision, great leaders motivate others to succeed by overcoming adversity and achieving greatness through their dedication to that vision.

Leadership is not about directing; it is about serving others with compassion and wisdom while motivating and coaching them to be great leaders. It can be developed and improved. By developing your character, communicating, and, most importantly, being willing to serve, you can become a great leader who can have a positive impact on the world.

To sum up, leadership is not about being the boss or telling others what to do; rather it is about helping and inspiring those you lead to become the best they can be. It is also very much about helping to guide others by using wisdom and having compassion. Effective Leadership is something that can be learned, and developed over time, through developing good character traits, communication skills, and having a desire to help others achieve greatness and ultimately help change the world.
